Borned in Taiwan, raised in Africa, and educated and worked in South Africa, Taipei, New York, and Hong Kong, we possess some of the most diverse and remarkable experiences among today's youth. During our time in large corporations, we discussed how to facilitate private equity mergers and acquisitions for clients, how to enhance valuations for IPOs, how to assist billionaires in establishing family trusts, and how to design multi-asset strategy portfolios to attract more institutional investments.
What we did sounded cool, but the sense of fulfillment in our hearts gradually diminished. Even the purpose of drinking coffee was no longer to savor it, but to keep our minds sharp and continue working. We dared not relax for even a second, knowing that the company could easily replace us with another brilliant mind at any moment...
As the pandemic came to an end, we returned to Africa with weary bodies to visit family. After nearly a full day of flight, crossing 23 degrees of latitude from north to south, we finally arrived in South Africa, a place we hadn’t seen in so long.
Here, we rediscovered the meaning of life. We witnessed a way of living where people coexist harmoniously with nature and animals, and met a group of suppliers dedicated to protecting local farmers and workers from exploitative labor practices. We traveled across South Africa, watching bees dance freely among the Fynbos flowers in pristine mountains, observing penguins waddle around us near vineyards by the sea, and savoring South Africa’s national treasure tea from specific regions while taking in the picturesque landscapes of the Northern Cape. The impact and emotions these experiences brought us made us eager to share them with those who have never been to Africa. And so, ILIFA was borned.
